From greg@matching.math.ucdavis.edu Wed Feb 4 14:53:04 1998 Date: Wed, 4 Feb 1998 08:32:38 -0500 From: Greg Kuperberg To: NMBRTHRY@LISTSERV.NODAK.EDU Subject: Announcement: Number theory xxx e-print category (math.NT) I'd like to announce a new service of great benefit to the number theory community: the Number Theory category (math.NT) of the xxx math e-print archives. I invite you to take a look at these archives at the Front for the xxx Math Archives: http://front.math.ucdavis.edu/ or directly at: http://xxx.lanl.gov/ The xxx archive system has had an enormous impact on scholarly communication in physics and in the areas of mathematics which it has traditionally covered, including algebraic geometry, differential geometry, quantum algebra, and functional analysis. The archive has over 65,000 physics e-prints, accruing at a rate of 20,000 per year, and nearly 4,000 math e-prints. A committee of mathematicians (consisting of David Morrison, Bill Casselman, Joe Christy, Richard Palais, Jim Stasheff, Mark Steinberger, myself, and others) has been formed to merge and expand these archives to all areas of mathematics. Several outside archives have agreed to merge with xxx, including Logic E-prints (now math.LO) and Several Complex Variables (now math.CV). In addition, the new categories Geometric Topology (GT) and Combinatorics (CO) have been popularized and enjoy healthy use. NT is another part of this expansion. The Number Theory category could become as successful as the other archives and categories at xxx, but it needs your participation. Already hundreds of algebraic geometers who use Algebraic Geometry (math.AG) also check math.NT regularly. I invite you to contribute at least one work in number theory to become familiar with the system. Anything you submit will be highly visibile to number theorists, algebraic geometers, and other mathematicians. You can find transparent step-by-step instructions for submitting a paper to math.NT (or any other math e-print) to xxx at: http://front.math.ucdavis.edu/submissions.html http://xxx.lanl.gov/help/submit You can also receive e-mail announcements of new NT e-prints by sending a 1-line message to math@xxx.lanl.gov with subject "subscribe": ------cut here------- To: math@xxx.lanl.gov Subject: subscribe add NT ------cut here------- Please tell your colleagues about the Number Theory category. It will be a great resource once people start to use it. The more who join, the better. Greg Kuperberg
